Patient's Query

I am a 16-year-old female, 170 cm tall, and weighing approximately 123.46 pounds. A couple of days ago, I slipped down the stairs and landed roughly below my knee. Initially, there was not much pain, but now, after a day or two, the area below my knee hurts, especially when I move my leg to the side or even when I am standing or keeping it straight. I have put on a brace. Should I be concerned about a major injury? How long will the healing process take? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. This could be the result of a ligamentous injury to the knee joint, which typically takes around six weeks to heal. I suggest you take the following medications:

  1. Tablet Ibuprofen 400mg: One tablet after food, twice a day for ten days.
  2. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 mg: One tablet before food, once a day for ten days.
  3. Tablet containing calcium and cholecalciferol 500 mg: One tablet before food, once a day for 30 days.
  4. Tablet Vitamin : One tablet once daily for ten days, then once a month for 11 months.

I suggest you consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent. Please take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Do not take these tablets if you have a known case of bronchial asthma. If you experience any adverse reactions, seek immediate medical attention. I also suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  1. Avoid activities that cause pain temporarily.
  2. If your knee is swollen or sore, avoid squatting, kneeling, twisting, pivoting, jogging, aerobics, dancing, and playing sports until the pain and swelling subside.
  3. Wear a hinged knee brace for support throughout the day; you can remove it at night.
  4. Apply ice packs twice daily for 15 minutes each.

Additionally, I suggest you undergo the X-ray of both your knee joints in standing (AP) and lateral views. Please have the X-rays done and upload them for accurate advice. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
