Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My right knee was injured while playing basketball a year ago. The knee was dislocated to the side, but it automatically aligned. It had been swollen for over a week. It has been a year, and I can walk, bend my knees, and do jumps and squats without pain when my knee is straight, but when I bend my knee all the way, it hurts on the right back side of my right knee. Also, when I play, it hurts when I do sudden twists. I have been doing light exercises, but nothing has changed. It has been a year, and is painful, but I would rather heal myself than have surgery. Please advise me on what I should do.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury (feels like joint bones rubbing together), patellar tendonitis (pain at the end of flexion), and meniscal tear are all common injuries in basketball players. Rest for a few days and use pain relievers such as tablet Nurofen (Ibuprofen) 200 mg twice daily for five days. If symptoms have not improved, please consult your orthopedician. He will examine and treat you accordingly.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
