Is the knee pain my child is experiencing after falling from the trampoline indicative of a fracture?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 6-year-old child has knee and shin pain. While jumping on the trampoline, he fell, screaming and holding his knee. He cannot put any weight on it and cannot straighten the knee. He has been pushing my hand away with his foot when I try to look at the knee.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you consult a specialist and start the following medication with their consent. Start the child on syrup Ibugesic Plus (Ibuprofen and Paracetamol) 6 milliliters twice a day for three days for the pain and swelling. Ice pack application may also help along with the above. Get an X-ray of the knee joint in the anteroposterior, lateral, and oblique views to rule out any fracture. The child will also have to be physically evaluated by a pediatrician to rule out any other issues.
