Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

After taking tab. Unwanted-72 (Levonorgestrel) my periods came 15 days late, when compared with my actual date. Please tell me, when will be my next period cycle. My actual period cycle date is the 15th of every month. This month I did not get my period. Is there a chance of pregnancy?

Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

How are you doing?

I have gone through your query.

Emergency contraceptive pill is the hormone progesterone produced from your body, due to high doses. This makes the inner lining of the uterus very thick and since only one dose is taken will exist till seven to ten days after taking the pills. But this hormone will interfere with the normal hormonal balance of the body. Due to these reasons, the next period cycle will be disturbed in some women. If you had periods after taking pills, that means you are not pregnant. If you are not sure of the period cycle, then check for a urine pregnancy test with the first sample of urine in the morning and once it was confirmed negative, then have any of the combined Oral contraceptive pills (pack of 21 pill) twice a day for ten days (avoid the 21st pill). You will get periods in seven to ten days after the last pill. Then have one cycle of the same 21 pills once at night for 21 days from the first day of the bleeding, which will regularize your hormone levels. The next periods will come on time if you follow properly. If the urine test is doubtful, confirm with serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test, it will diagnose the pregnancy accurately in the body.

Hope I have clarified your doubt. If any concerns consult me at icliniq.com. All the best.

Thanks and regards.
