Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 17 years old. On the fourth day of my period, I had my first intercourse, which was just for a minute. The next day my period started to reduce, and then it suddenly stopped. It is very unusual as my period lasts for about a week. My lower abdomen and legs are hurting. I am assuming it is because of the muscle stretch. I also had a self-orgasm the same day I had the intercourse. I am very scared that I might get pregnant.

Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you not worry, and the chances of pregnancy are very rare in this case as day four is not the time of ovulation. As you had sexual intercourse on the fourth day of your cycle, the chances of pregnancy are not there. The reason for reduced periods is the sexual act itself, as when you start having intercourse, there are some changes in the body that can lead to changes in the menstrual cycle.

If you have severe pain, I suggest you take the painkiller tablet Drotin-M (Drotaverine and Mefenamic acid).

And still, if you want to be sure, you can take a urine pregnancy test 13 days after the unprotected intercourse. If negative, this means you are not pregnant. And suppose the sexual act occurred two to three days back then; to be on the safer side, I suggest you take an Unwanted 72 (Levonorgesterol, Ethinylestradiol, and Ferrous fumarate) pills or I pill (Levonorgestrel).

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Your reply gave me a kind of relief you could have never imagined. But since then, my abdomen, lower and upper, both started hurting like crazy. The normal vaginal discharge that I used to have just stopped immediately. I feel like something in me is being stopped from coming out. I puked a bit yesterday morning and felt uneasy. I took the pain killer Dotrin-M the way you suggested and got an ultrasound done yesterday, the 10th day of my period. Everything looked normal. But I am still stressing a lot because of the extreme abdominal pain and the sudden stopping of vaginal discharge. Please say something to clear these things off my head. My pain is also leading to my kidney region. It is spreading sideways too. And maybe thinking about it too much makes me feel motion-sick. Please help me out. I am thinking of getting a urine test tomorrow. I trust you, and please tell me what can happen. And how do I know if there was any pre-ejaculation when the penis got in for 10 seconds?

Please give your suggestions.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

See, vaginal discharge is not present throughout the cycle. It is there just for 3 to 4 days, and then it disappears, so there is nothing abnormal in this. Secondly, an ultrasound on day ten will not help in finding anything. If you are stressed, take a urine pregnancy test and check for serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels. This will clear your doubt.

If you have pain along your kidney region and it is radiating down, my suggestion would be to take plenty of water and Dotin-M tablet (Drotaverine and Mefenamic Acid) and get an ultrasound KUB (kidney, ureter, and bladder) done to rule out any stone formation.

There is no method to know whether any pre-ejaculatory secretions were there. But yes, as I have already explained, the chances of pregnancy in your case are almost nil.

I hope this has helped you.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

It has been a couple of days now. I am keeping a check on my symptoms. I still have not gotten any of the tests. It has been 11 days since the unprotected intercourse. Yesterday my breasts and my nipples were hurting a lot. And my lower abdomen was hurting really bad, leading it to the kidney region again. That means my back. I have been taking Dotrin-M, as you suggested, and have been drinking a lot of water, but I think nothing is helping the pain go away. I have been stressing a lot. I hope there are still no chances of pregnancy, as the intercourse did not even last for 10 seconds properly. I will wait for your reply. Researching on the internet stresses me out even more. And your advice is my only hope. My abdomen hurts quite a lot, to be honest, leading it to my back.

Please reply.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

First of all, do not worry. All the symptoms you describe are only due to stress and nothing else.

In a person who has a regular 28 to 30 day cycle day of ovulation is days 14 to 16, and you had intercourse on day four. The egg and the sperm do not survive for this long. It survives for a maximum of three days. So chances of pregnancy are not there, and also, there was no ejaculation in your case. Just insertion was there for 10 seconds, so I do not think this will lead to pregnancy.

But as you are so stressed, I suggest you undergo a serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test and check the levels. If negative, then you can be sure that there is no pregnancy. All the other symptoms you describe are not serious and will disappear when you stop stressing out.

I hope this has helped you out.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for all the informations.

I was just worried as my abdominal pain is increasing day by day. It is very hard to ignore. I am taking Dotrin-M and the inside of my vagina has been hurting a lot lately. I feel pressure. What can be the cause?

Please give me your suggestions.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have a few questions,

1. Is there any discharge along with this?

2. Or any urinary complaints like increased frequency or burning sensation?

Kindly follow up with the answers.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

The abdominal pain and the back pain are still there, and as I have already mentioned, my discharge used to be there in a healthy quantity every day. But now it has suddenly stopped. There is no sign of any discharge from that day onwards. My vagina gets wet, but there is just a small amount of water excretion but no sign of discharge. And it feels like something wants to come out, but it is being held back. It hurts periodically. My urination is fine, but I feel a bit of pressure when I pee, and when I hold my pee for a long time, it hurts a bit. I am just worried about the sudden stoppage of discharge and the pain. I will be taking the urine pregnancy test this weekend.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

First, take a urine pregnancy test.

Secondly, get a complete urine examination done. These symptoms may be due to urinary tract infection as well, which is quite common after sexual activity.

Thirdly drink a lot of water, at least 2.5 to 3 liters per day.

For back pain and pain in the legs, I suggest using Dynapar Qps ointment (Diclofenac, Menthol, and Methyl salicylate) twice daily locally, and the pain will be relieved. And the rest we can manage only after taking the urine pregnancy test.

I hope this has helped you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

There is no chance of pregnancy, right? Are these symptoms of pregnancy?

Because you are right, the pain does lead to my legs sometimes. And what about the discharge? Will it get back to normal?

Please help me out.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

See, these are vague symptoms that can be present in pregnancy and otherwise as well. These are not particularly associated with pregnancy. So we cannot predict it at present. As there is a history of sexual intercourse, but yes, on the 4th day of the cycle, chances of pregnancy are almost nil, but it can occur rarely.

To rule it out, I have suggested you to check beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels. Also, after ruling out pregnancy, I can suggest medications to relieve your symptoms.

And, do not worry about discharge. It will be normal in a few days.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I bought the home pregnancy test kit and tested it today with my first urine of the morning. And it showed just one visible red line. Then in the afternoon, I checked with the same kit again, and there was this very faint, red line. It is not that visible, but I saw it. Then right now, I took another one, and one visible red line was there, and then after 10 minutes, I saw a very faint line next to it. I do not know what this means. I am sending you the picture. The picture might not do justice, but I can see it with my eyes.

Please explain and help me out.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do not worry; your pregnancy test is negative.

See, the test has to be read after one minute of doing it, and that is the accurate thing. If we keep any kit for a longer duration, a faint line usually appears, so that does not mean that the test is positive. In your case, after one minute, there was only a single line, so that means the test is negative and you are not pregnant.

I hope this has helped.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Might the line turn out faint because I took the test a bit early? If I take it after a few more days, the line may turn out to be more visible and dark. What is the reason for the second faint line? And are pregnancy tests more accurate when taken after a missed period? So is mine accurate, or will it change after my missed period? It has been 21 days since the unprotected intercourse. I am stressed.

Please help.

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you still have a doubt regarding pregnancy, then the best is to undergo the blood test I suggested earlier. So get tested for serum beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels to be sure and to rule out pregnancy. It is better and more accurate than the urine test.

I hope this has helped you.

Take care.
