Hi doctor,

I developed a liver disease due to alcohol consumption. However, it is in the early stage and my face has also turned black. I have a burning sensation in my stomach and I do not feel hungry. Also, I feel my stomach is not clear and I have had these symptoms for the past three months. I have attached my liver function test reports for your reference. What to do now?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Well, your liver function tests suggest that you might still be drinking alcohol, or have recently consumed alcohol (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The best treatment for alcohol-related liver disease is prevention, which means you have to stop drinking alcohol completely. The liver function test results and the impact it has caused so far would reverse if you quit alcohol at once. I reassure you, that the damage is not extensive, so do not worry. I suggest you to undergo the following tests for further diagnosis,

1. An ultrasound abdomen to rule out liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.

2. Get prothrombin time and INR (International normalized ratio) tested.

3. Check for serum creatinine levels.

Kindly follow up with the reports.

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I have stopped drinking alcohol completely. Also, is it necessary to undergo these tests? Is it possible for you to give me medicines with my LFT reports?

Please advice.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Well, there are no medications required except multivitamins like Methylcobalamin 500 mcg. Take one tablet daily for four weeks. The LFTs (liver function tests) would improve on their own. In addition, kindly repeat the liver function tests after four weeks.

Take care.
