Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

What is the first aid to be given for a 61-year-old male experiencing low blood pressure? Recently, he had a blood pressure of 90/44 mmHg. He has dizziness, weakness, and nausea. He has improvement in systolic but his diastolic seems to be low. Currently, he is taking Janumet 50 mg one tablet a day, Ursomax 300 mg one tablet a day, Febuxostat 40 mg one tablet a day, and Rosuvastatin 20 mg one tablet a day.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are many possible causes to have low blood pressure and management depends on the cause of the blood pressure. Several medications can be used to treat low blood pressure. But the choice of medication depends on the cause of the low blood pressure. I recommend that your patient needs to do CBC (complete blood count), BUN (blood urea nitrogen), creatinine, and ECG (electrocardiography). For first aid, you can raise the lower part of the patient's body by putting pillows under the legs or you can put the patient in a modified Trendelenburg or Trendelenburg position. You can use compression stocking to promote fluid circulation. I recommend increasing the fluid intake of two to three liters a day helps to increase blood volume. For patients having low blood pressure, increasing salt intake helps them a lot. If the symptoms persist or worsen, then it is good to consult a doctor soon.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
