Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My recent blood tests show high homocysteine and low ferritin, vitamin B12, folate, methylmalonic acid, iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation are normal. My symptoms are muscle pain, tiredness, shortness of breath, and mild vertigo. I have a history of gastritis and constipation. Can you please interpret my tests?
Kindly assist.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Your low ferritin suggests reduced iron stores. However, a normal transferrin saturation level indicates that iron transport in the bloodstream may still be adequate at present. The significance of this finding depends on your hemoglobin level, which would help determine whether iron deficiency anemia is also present.
I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.
