Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female. I have had pressure or weight on my lower right abdomen for around a year. That side of my body hurts during every other period like it is alternating with my ovaries. There was no pain in the beginning but, more recently, my menstrual cramps have become worse, and so have my backaches. I have had an ultrasound and a CT scan with and without contrast that have come back clean. My doctor told me to begin taking Miralax and using the bathroom every day. I have no problem with bowel movements and feel that I have just been blown off. I have never heard of a blockage that could last an entire year.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern.

Mild discomfort during menstruation is normal because you are shedding the inner layer of the uterus with blood. So, that is not an abnormality, and every female gets it. If your CT (computed tomography) is normal, it is physiological, or sometimes endometriosis may cause severe cramps during menstruation. A laxative will not help, and I do not see any reason for you to continue it. It will settle down after your first pregnancy if it is due to endometriosis. Until then, you may have to bear with it.

Regards.
