Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had these bumps on my forehead for the past two years. Some are colored and some have white heads but they are not covered with makeup, and they just stick out. It even makes it worse. I have very oily skin and use a deep cleaning astringent on my face and not on my forehead. Any other cleansers I saw online could make it worse or cause more buildup. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. With your descriptions and given pictures (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), it looks like you have acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is a common skin concern in adolescents and may sometimes persist in adulthood, too. It is a skin disorder involving pilosebaceous follicles or oil glands and is therefore seen to involve areas where oil glands are dense. Face, chest, back, and upper arms are the common sites of involvement. In females, it may also be associated with menses irregularities or PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). You have to follow certain dietary restrictions, like not eating oily and spicy food, junk food, milk products, and non-vegetarian food. Drink lots of water, which hydrates your skin, and avoid applying hair oil because it can aggravate your forehead acne. You can use topical antibiotic cream like 1% Clindamycin (Carbomer 941 and Methylparaben) gel over the pimples in the daytime and topical retinoids like 0.1% Adapalene (Carbomer 941 and Methylparaben) gel during the night daily for few months. These topical retinoid gels can slightly irritate your skin. So, it should be used in low quantities. If irritation persists, then immediately stop using it. You can use Cutiwash (Cocamidopropyl betaine and Propylene glycol) face wash or alcohol and acetone-free cleanser or soft soap twice daily. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
