Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a persistent cough with phlegm, chest pain, exhaustion after a short duration and nodules in the right lung. The x-ray revealed that signs of atelectasis are present. After using three different types of medicine and steroid inhaler, the symptoms are still present. The most recent prescription includes Ciprofloxacin for ten days. I had antibiotics for two weeks before the recent medications. Am I suffering from lunch cancer?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. You have not mentioned the CT (computerized tomography) scan report that you had done. The x-rays are showing nodules; hence, it might be pneumonic consolidations that should be considered first rather than directly thinking about malignancy. Sputum cytology and examination study should be done including gram stain and AFB stain (acid fast bacilli). Culture will be beneficial to choose the medicine according to the sensitivity report. If CT scan and other clinical findings suggest towards malignancy, then we suggest ultrasound-guided FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) to exclude malignancy. Consult pulmonologist for your examination with keeping all this in mind and decide your management plan. I hope this helps. Thankyou and take care. Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
