Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a persistent cough with phlegm, chest pain, exhaustion after a short duration, and nodules in the right lung. The X-ray revealed signs of atelectasis. After using three different types of medicine and a steroid inhaler, the symptoms are still present. The most recent prescription includes Ciprofloxacin for ten days. I had antibiotics for two weeks before the recent medications. Am I suffering from lung cancer?
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You have not mentioned the CT (computerized tomography) scan report that you had done. The x-rays are showing nodules; hence, it might be pneumonic consolidations that should be considered first rather than directly thinking about malignancy. Sputum cytology and examination studies should be done, including Gram stain and AFB stain (acid-fast bacilli). Culture will be beneficial to choose the medicine according to the sensitivity report. If a CT scan and other clinical findings suggest malignancy, then we suggest ultrasound-guided FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) to exclude malignancy. Consult a pulmonologist for your examination with all this in mind and decide on your management plan.
I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.
Regards.
