Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 16-year-old brother has lupus and is currently receiving Benlysta (Belimubab) injections every 4 weeks. He does not have any other health issues. The doctor mentioned a potential change in dosage soon. I would like to understand if Benlysta is the right medication and when he might start feeling better. Could you provide information about this medicine and its effectiveness in treating lupus?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Certainly, the medication, Benlysta (Belimubab), is indeed appropriate for conditions like lupus. It is possible that they are gradually tapering the dosage, eventually leading to cessation if the patient's health improves. Lupus being an autoimmune disease involves the immune system producing antibodies against its own tissues, and Benlysta, as a monoclonal antibody, helps control this response. After a few sessions, the patient is expected to improve, and the medication will be discontinued. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.

I am thankful that you have confidence in me to help you.
