Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old and I have the habit of masturbating for about 6 years now, typically once a day. It does not seem to interfere with my daily life, but I experience feelings of guilt every time I do it. I am concerned about potential negative effects, like infertility or difficulty satisfying a partner in the future. I have a high sex drive and need to know if it is okay to continue or if I should try to stop. Please clarify.

I can understand your concern Masturbation is normal and ninety-five percent of male does it. It is just another way of having sex without a partner. It is a good practice and has the following benefits.

  1. Stress relief..
  2. Boosts mood.
  3. Improves sleep.
  4. Helps to prevent depression and anxiety.
  5. Relaxes the mind of a person.
  6. Relieves pain and muscle cramps.
  7. Relieves the sexual tension.
  8. Improves the confidence of a person.
  9. Allows one to have better sex.
  10. Helps the person understand their needs and desires.
  11. In females, masturbation increases vaginal blood flow.

Masturbation will not harm your penis and doing it two to three times a week is not an issue. Doing it more than that can cause tiredness, loss of concentration and a sense of infertility.I suggest you try some of the following to reduce masturbation.

  2. Physical exercises.
  3. Sleep adjustment and improving the quality of sleep
  4. Healthy and balanced diet.
