Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What is the difference between measles and heat rash? What are the symptoms of measles and heat rash? In what ways do they look similar if any? Any advice for moms who have children that have either measles or a heat rash?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

The symptoms of measles versus heat rash are:

  1. Fever is present in measles but less likely in heat rash.
  2. The measles rash persists for a few days whereas the heat rash goes away earlier in a day or two.
  3. The rash of measles is maculopapular while the heat rash is mostly red and macular.
  4. Heat rash is mostly on the exposed parts of the body whereas measles rash is all over.
    1. Control fever by giving Paracetamol and if you find it serious, please seek medical help.
      1. Cool down the child by removing the clothes and giving them a cool bath.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
