Is it dangerous to take Mebendazole more than twice a year?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please tell about worm infection. I am 20 years old and had worm infection twice in the year and had also completed Vermox Mebendazole course of three days twice. Please suggest taking it again is dangerous to health or not?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Usually, you develop worm infestation when you consume food which is uncooked, not washed properly, or if you eat food out frequently (from the infected food handlers).

You might want to take care if you are overdoing any of the above.

Alternatively, you can take tablet Albendazole 400 mg single dose. Once in six months or once a year should be fine if you eat out frequently. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines with their consent.
