Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father had a CT scan for head injury. I have attached the two CDs for your reference. One important thing is different in the reports. It is about a crack of parietal and temporal bones. Could you take a look and describe them to me?

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the images of CT scans (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

  • There is bleeding in the left thalamus and a subdural hemorrhage in the left temporal region. Soft tissue thickness is increased in the right temporal and parietal region.
  • There is a thin linear lucency along the outer table of the bone in the right parietal region. This can occur due to trauma and is probably due to mild injury.
  • What do you mean by crack of parietal and temporal bones? Please clarify it.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have original report that says that there is some fracture. Is there any kind of fracture or crack on the skull? You said some thin linear lucency. Could it be a fracture? Does this have anything to do with the bleeding in the brain?

Answered by Dr. Vivek Chail

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • There is lucency between the outer table of the skull and diploe.
  • The outer table of the skull contains compact bone and the diploe is spongy bone. Therefore, due to trauma, there can be separation like the one visualized.
  • There is no fracture in any area. This will not cause any bleeding like the one your father had.
