Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 34 year old male. I am suffering from headache for the last 14 years. In the past, the frequency of headache was less. But recently, it has increased to three to four headaches in a month. I was taking homeopathic medicine for my headache. Also, I took Saridon tablet during headache, which gives me immediate relief or reduces the intensity of headaches. I have noted some trigger points which triggers my headache that are sunlight, hot weather, strong smell or odor, hunger, etc. My mother also has migraine headache since long time. Please suggest me some treatment for my headache. Also, my headache starts with neck pain. As the intensity of headache increases, the neck pain gradually decreases. The headache was always one sided that is either left or right. The headache mostly starts in the afternoon and goes away in the next morning without taking any medicine. It starts with lower intensity and gradually increases and after reaching a peak point it starts reducing. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. A few points to be considered for your headache are as follows. The first and foremost, as you have headache since last 14 years, as per the current standard of recommendations, I would suggest that you should get an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain done. High likely it would be normal, but we need to make sure that it is normal. The pattern of headache you described fits into the vascular headaches. All the triggers, which you mentioned are the situations that increases the adrenaline levels in the blood and affects the blood vessels to cause vasodilation, which is the cause of headache. As we are able to hypothesize the pathophysiology of your headache, we would give a trial of preventive measures rather than treating you with regular medicines straightaway. The preventive measures for you would be stress management, avoid the triggers you mentioned and the most effective is regular meditation. This balances the neurotransmitters in the brain and avoids the frequent attacks of migraine. If at all, the preventive measures do not work or you do not want to try, then I suggest tablet Flunarizine 5 mg at bedtime. For acute episodes, I suggest tablet Zerodol (Aceclofenac).

Patient's Query

As per your suggestions(given on 20/8/2016) from last 18 days I'm taking flunarin 5mg at bedtime for my migraine headache. while sleeping I feel dizziness for few seconds and heartburn for few minute which goes after sometime. Is this a side effect of flunarin 5mg? shall I discontinue this medicine or will you suggest any other medicine .please suggest

Yes, you got it right. Both are side effects of flunarine. But for you, it's just minimal side effects. I think these will settle gradually. I would advise you to continue the same medicine because it's the most preferred first line medicine we advise for the migraine. Please consider my other advises also.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
