Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 20 year old female, who weighs 47 kg and my height is 5 feet. I do not have any symptoms right now, but I am worried that I may get pregnant. If I get pregnant, then how can I terminate it early with medications? Please give me appropriate answers. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • In early stages, we can terminate with medicines. But before that, we need to confirm the pregnancy. You should get urine pregnancy test done and repeat after 12 to 24 hours. If possible, get an ultrasound of the pelvis done, which will also help in early diagnosis.
  • There are medicines available like Misoprostol, which is kept in the vagina. It causes abortion in the majority of patients. But it has to be used under the supervision of a medical practitioner.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for replying. Is Misoprostol medicine safe? Can I buy directly from the chemist? Do I have to keep it inside my vagina? Can I do that at home?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Yes, it can be done at home, but it is not advisable. It has to be done under the supervision of a medical practitioner. But first, you confirm the pregnancy and then get back. I will tell you the warning signs and precautions.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is I-pill safe? And when is the correct time to take an I-pill?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Yes, I-pill is safe. No serious complications have been associated with emergency contraception. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, irregular bleeding, breast tenderness, and headache, which are temporary and seen in some females.
  • It should be taken as early as possible after sex, but it is effective till 72 hours after sex, so can be taken during this time. After this time period, efficacy decreases.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I got my periods on the fifth of this month, but my periods lasted only for three days. I think I am not pregnant, but I still want you to give me some related answers. Please tell me the signs of pregnancy. Am I pregnant? I am really worried.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • The earliest sign of pregnancy is having no periods. So at this stage, one will not have any symptoms or signs even if one is pregnant. One may have morning sickness nearly after 4 to 6 weeks of pregnancy.
  • You are less likely to be pregnant, although rarely one may get short periods. So get a urine pregnancy test done and reconfirm it after 12 hours, if negative, then pregnancy is unlikely.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply. I am having lower stomach pains from the past few days. I also have a pink blister on my throat. I am taking medication for past 10 days, but my throat infection is not getting cured. What are the causes of lower stomach ache and throat infection? I am just fed up of taking medicine for the throat. Can you tell me if I am pregnant?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • Your symptoms are probably related to gastritis and reflux problem. Your throat symptoms are also probably due to reflux only. It is rare for throat infection to persist for 10 days, especially if you are taking antibiotics.
  • Also, abdominal pain may be due to this only. However, there are numerous causes for this like indigestion, worms infestation, urinary tract infection, especially if burning urination or pain on pressing the lower abdomen is present, vaginal infection, especially if a white discharge is present, and pregnancy sometimes can cause pain as well.
  • Most probably it is due to acidity, gastritis, and reflux. Do you also have nausea, bloating, burping, increase in pain on food, sour water feeling in throat or chest burning? These are the other symptoms and may be associated. If yes, I suggest you try doing the following:
  1. Avoid fatty, oily, and spicy diet.
  2. Go for a walk after having food, instead of taking rest.
  3. Have multiple small meals, instead of heavy meals.
  4. Have regular sleep habits and avoid stress.
  5. Consume a lot of green leafy vegetable and fruits.
  6.  Avoid smoking and alcohol if any.
  7. Try tablet Rantac (Ranitidine) 150 mg, twice a day before breakfast and before dinner for two weeks.
  8. Add syrup Sucral O (Sucralfate and Oxetacaine) or Gelusil, two teaspoons three times a day for a week.
  9. For immediate pain relief, you can try antispasmodic like tablet Dicyclomine 20 or Hyoscine 10 mg, whenever needed up to three times a day.
  10. Betadine gargles or warm salt water gargles, three times a day.
  • You first need to confirm if you are pregnant and termination is always advisable to do under medical supervision. You should have urine pregnancy test and ultrasound of the abdomen if possible for further clarification. Get back if you have some information to share like detailed symptoms and the exact site of pain in the abdomen. What medicine are you taking from the last 10 days?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I feel my abdomen swells up especially when I walk. After I urinate, I feel better. It pains in the middle of the lower stomach, and I especially feel pain when I press. I noticed that my white discharge is more slimy and transparent and sometimes white. I do not know what is happening to my body. And for my throat infection, I went to a new doctor today, who gave me Ranitidine hydrochloride 150 mg and Cetirizine hydrochloride 10 mg for five days. But, I do not have heartburn or acidity. Please clarify my doubts regarding abdominal pain.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  • It appears to be both a urinary tract infection and a vaginal infection called as pelvic inflammatory disease, which is causing abdominal pain. I guess there is no burning urination. Since you are sexually active, you are prone to a lot of infection.
  • To confirm this, it is better and important if you can get urine routine examination done for urinary infection. You will need antibiotics for this, first for urinary tract infection. I suggest tablet Nitrofurantoin 100 mg, twice a day for seven days along with antacids like Pan DSR (Pantoprazole and Domperidone) 40 mg before breakfast or Ranitidine 150 mg twice a day.
  • It is better to start this after urine routine examination, and if urine examination is negative, then we can avoid it and begin the course for vaginal infection. For vaginal infection, at this moment, you try applying Candid (Clotrimazole) cream inside the vagina, once daily at bedtime for seven days and tablet Fluconazole 150 mg, just once after lunch.
  • After completion of Nitrofurantoin, you may further need antibiotics course for vaginal infection. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and start taking the medicines after their consent.
