Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old woman. I have a very hectic lifestyle due to my work schedule. I often face issues while sleeping and seldom get a peaceful and sound sleep. Recently, my friend recommended sleep medicine (Melatonin supplements). Are these medicines safe to take? Does it help in sleeping? Will I develop a habit of these medicines? Are these supplements safe during pregnancy? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to Icliniq.com

I can understand your concern.

Melatonin is for sleep and it can be used in various situations but in your case, I would suggest you try natural ways for better sleep. Side effects are usually like laziness headache and vomiting. Starting supplements once will become an addiction for you to use frequently. I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions.

  1. Melatonin is released from the brain, and it helps in sleeping it gets inhibited by using screens like mobile phones and laptops, so I would suggest that you avoid mobile screens and laptop screens while going to sleep.
  2. Start doing yoga regularly for better sleep, and also include meditation in your routine.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
