Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been having memory issues and issues typing on my phone, like forgetting words. I am under a lot of mental stress, and I have anorexia. I have had a CT scan which revealed I have autism, and I have been told not to panic. Is there a structural change in my right temple region? Could this be autism? It is not cancer, but I am worried now.

Please give me your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Considering the history and development of new symptoms like memory issues, forgetting words, and typing problems, as well as the presence of a structural abnormality in your right temporal lobe, I suggest you to undergo EEG (electroencephalography) for further evaluation. Because the symptoms you mentioned may be due to a form of seizure. There are simple or "simple-partial" (non-convulsive) seizures without loss of consciousness that can cause the manifestations you mentioned. Even if a routine EEG does not rule out any abnormality, you should be evaluated via LTM (long-term EEG monitoring) for 24 to 48 hours. If the cause is a seizure, it could be easily controlled by anti-epileptic drugs.

Answering your question if it is related to autism, my answer is no.

I hope this was helpful.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I banged my head when I was a kid and cracked my skull. That cracked part was reattached on the right side; I was also born prematurely. Also, I suffer from anorexia. Could that have caused the structural change? Also, this is my first CT scan.

Kindly share your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I cannot see your CT (computerized tomography). Nothing has been attached to your message. Kindly attach the image for further diagnosis.

Kindly follow up for more queries.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

They are not giving me the results. Also, a while ago, I had the EBV infection and anorexia I have had for many years. My memory issues and spelling are fine some days, but sometimes they are terrible. I also am having issues touch typing where I am missing keys or typing the wrong key entirely. I have myopia, and my eyesight has worsened, but wearing spectacles has corrected it. So I do not know what is causing these issues.

In addition, I have low folic acid and vitamin D3 levels, leading to severe muscle twitching. I was told the right temporal lobe controls emotions, so I have had issues due to structural abnormality. The doctors have suggested undergoing an MRI. And now, I am worried because I am only 20 years old and have autism, but reading up on autism reveals autism can cause structural abnormality in the temporal lobe, which stresses me a lot.

The doctors said the CT was normal, but they also said it is not fine because of the issues. I am confused and stressed.

Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The temporal lobe abnormality in autism will not be visible on a CT (computerized tomography). Therefore, if they find an abnormality in your temporal lobe via CT, it is not related to autism. However, it may be related to your childhood trauma or may be congenital. So I suggest you to visit a neurologist to undergo an EEG (electroencephalogram) for further diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this was helpful.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

I will get that done. Could it also be due to mental stress? I am stressed a lot.

Kindly give your suggestions.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, but the psychogenic causes are considered the last diagnosis after ruling out all possible organic causes with proper investigations.

I hope this was helpful.

Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
