Does contraceptive injection cause longer periods than usual?

Hi doctor,
I am a 21-year-old female. I have a query about prolonged periods and contraceptive injections. I have been on the two-month contraceptive injection for a little over a year, and everything has been smooth sailing until the end of last month. Recently this past month, I have been experiencing heavier flows than normal and longer periods (more than seven days) instead of my usual four days with additional days of spotting. The bleeding has only stopped for three days in the past month before starting again. I fear I may have another period of prolonged bleeding. What should I do?

Due to the hormonal injection, a hormonal imbalance could occur, and such symptoms you may experience as the injections are non-reversible. I would suggest taking the tablet Tranexa MF (Tranexamic Acid and Mefenamic Acid) twice daily. Start from the 4th day of bleeding. Once it stops, you may discontinue these medicines. You should also do an ultrasonography pelvis scan, thyroid profile, and complete blood count to rule out any pathology.
