What could be the cause of a delayed period in a person who did not have sex?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am not getting regular periods for the past few months. I did not have any physical relations. I had oral sex only once. What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

There are many possibilities for irregular periods.

1. The hormonal balance of the body is not attained at the age of 19 to 21 years. As a result, the periods may or may not be regular. However, there is nothing to worry about. They will gradually regularize.

2. Any sudden increase or decrease in weight.

3. To reduce weight, I suggest avoiding fasting, junk food, and red meat. Reduce snacking between meals. Have a low-calorie diet rich in protein. Do regular exercise, aerobics, yoga, and brisk walking.

4. Any significant physical or mental stress, anxiety, depression, or happiness recently can be a cause.

5. Thyroid and prolactin hormone abnormality.

Once the weight is within the normal limit, I believe your period will be fine. If any doubt, do a urine pregnancy test. I suggest you consult a gynecologist and take a birth control pill to regularize your periods.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
