Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 23 years old, and I am facing significant mental health challenges that are causing family problems. My family does not seem to understand what I am going through, and they talk about me behind my back, which is very distressing. This situation is affecting my sleep, leaving me feeling helpless and drained of energy. I am not sure what steps to take to address this. Please, can you provide guidance on how to cope with these issues? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I read your query and understood your concern.

First of all, I would like to mention that sometimes you do not have control over the situations and what others do but what matters is how you cope with it. Kindly screen yourself for clinical depression. Do a self-rating test of depression like Zung's self-rating depression scale which you can easily find online and if it is indicative of moderate to severe depression consult a psychiatrist in person for detailed evaluation and treatment. Besides I suggest you follow below mentioned measures:

  1. Practice relaxation techniques like breath relaxation exercises daily as it will help you relax and focus.

  2. Maintain a stress diary and daily log down your thoughts uncensored and never read them again it will help vent out your daily stress.

  3. Give at least one hour daily for your hobbies.

  4. Aerobic exercises for at least half an hour daily have been found to be helpful.

If these methods do not help consult a psychiatrist or a clinical psychologist in person. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thank you.
