Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was advised to take Methotrexate 15 mg. I am taking it for nine weeks. I get a lot of joint pain, especially in the shoulders, elbows, and fingers. I have some skin issues. My doctor told me it was psoriatic arthritis. My doctor has advised me to use Enstilar spray and Eukroma cream. Is Methotrexate a safe medication?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Methotrexate is a well-known drug used for arthritis. If you have regular control, then you can manage its side effects. Their side effects are treatable. But arthritis damages joints and it is irreversible. Some people split their dosage or take it in the evening. If you do not have any benefits from oral Methotrexate taken for two to three months, then you can use subcutaneous injection or try changing your medication.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can I have a headache on one side of the head after taking Methotrexate? Is it a side effect?

Answered by Dr. Reinhard Spyra

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Some people can get headaches, reduced concentration, and brain fog. Please mention how long does your headache last after taking Methotrexate. You can have some changes. Take it at bedtime. You can split your dosage. You can take 5 mg in the morning and 10 mg at bedtime. As long as 15 mg is taken within 24 hours, then it is good. If your condition remains bad, then you can take Dextromethorphan 20 to 50 mg weekly with Methotrexate dose and again take it after 8 to 12 hours later. Methotrexate is a lifesaver medicine for people with arthritis.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have a headache on one side and it happens at night. Is it fine to take Paracetamol at night?

Answered by Dr. Reinhard Spyra

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can take it. With arthritis and Methotrexate, you have an increased risk to have infections. Stop taking Methotrexate and consult your doctor soon.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
