Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have extremely sensitive facial skin that often turns red. Every moisturizer I have tried causes burning sensations on my skin and eyes. I have experimented with various reputable brands and pharmaceutical products, but nothing seems to work. I have combination skin and have been dealing with milia for the past ten years. Can you kindly recommend a cream that will not cause a burning sensation, make my skin oily, and also will not contribute to milia? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. I suggest you follow below mentioned general tips for finding a moisturizer that may be suitable for your sensitive skin and help address your concerns:

  1. Look for products labeled fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Fragrances can be irritating to sensitive skin, so opting for fragrance-free products can help minimize potential reactions.
  2. Consider moisturizers specifically formulated for sensitive skin. These products are usually designed to be gentle and less likely to cause irritation. Look for key phrases like for sensitive skin or gentle formula on the packaging.
  3. Check the ingredient list for potential irritants. Some common ingredients that can cause sensitivity or irritation include alcohol, certain preservatives (like parabens), and fragrances. Try to avoid products that contain these ingredients, as they may trigger redness or burning sensations.
  4. Consider using moisturizers with soothing and calming ingredients. Look for ingredients like aloe vera, chamomile, oat extract, or green tea, as they may help to soothe and reduce redness.
  5. Test the product on a small patch of skin before applying it to your face. This can help you determine if the moisturizer causes any adverse reactions or sensitivity.

Regarding milia, which are small white bumps that can appear on the skin, it is best you consult with a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment options. They can provide guidance on how to manage or potentially reduce the occurrence of milia. I suggest you use good moisturizer brands that are known for their formulations for sensitive skin. Keep in mind that it is always a good idea to read product labels, check for potential allergens, and do a patch test before applying any new product to your face. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
