Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have not had my periods for four months. I had sex three months back. After two months of having sex, I took three pregnancy tests at suitable intervals. They all were negative. Earlier I have been diagnosed with PCOS. Can I be pregnant? Also, I have attached some of my blood reports and USG report too. Kindly check it.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Two things are clear from your USG (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) -
Your blood reports show:
1. A normal thyroid function.
2. A normal FSH (normal functioning pituitary).
3. Normal sugars.
4. Normal insulin levels.
5. Normal blood counts (meaning no infection or anemia).
6. Near-normal LH (luteinizing hormone) and DHEAS (dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate) values.
All these points show that you do not have PCOS. But your prolactin levels are high. Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary (a gland in the brain), which is responsible for milk production post-delivery. Therefore, it should increase only at that time. But in your non-pregnant state, prolactin is increased (stress could be a cause for the rise in prolactin). This could be the cause of your absence period. This can be treated using the drug Cabergoline or Bromocriptine, depending on the underlying causes. Consult your obstetrician and gynecologist. You may have to take a CT scan.
Do not worry. It is completely treatable.
Regards.
