What should be considered before joining a fitness program?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a patient with mitral valve prolapse. I had an echocardiogram last year, and according to the doctor, it is not serious. Can I participate in fitness training?

Please guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your health query and would like to note that the echocardiogram report you uploaded (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) is outdated and may not accurately reflect your current health status. I need to know the present condition of your heart; it may be better than before, which would positively support your plans for fitness training. However, it could also be the opposite, so it is important to consider all possibilities. I recommend scheduling a follow-up visit with your cardiologist, who can suggest a new echocardiogram and any other necessary heart investigations. This will enable me to provide better guidance based on your current status. My final recommendation is not to start fitness training without consulting your cardiologist first.

I hope this information helps.

Please feel free to reach out with any additional questions; I would be happy to assist you.

Thank you.
