Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 17-year-old teenager who is 6'2" tall and weighs 170 lbs. Yesterday, my calf got trapped under an ATV for about 20 to 30 seconds. Today, I am able to walk on it, and there is minimal discomfort except when touched, but it remains considerably swollen. Despite the suggestion against it, I am attempting to avoid seeking medical attention as I do not want anyone to discover that the ATV had overturned. However, I acknowledge that I will see a doctor if the situation deteriorates or if you believe it could potentially have severe consequences for me. Currently I am taking ibuprofen for inflammation. Thank you for your assistance.

Hello,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

After examining the picture (attachment removed to protect the patient identity), I suggest that you use ice compression for 20 minutes on the swollen area every other hour to aid in recovery. Additionally, elevating the leg can help to reduce swelling, and taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) such as ibuprofen 600mg every six hours can help alleviate pain. You can also apply a crepe bandage to manage the swelling and keep moving your toes and ankle. It is important to monitor for pain at rest, which can be persistent and throbbing, indicating a tight compartment that requires immediate attention. With these measures, you should notice visible improvement within a few days. However, if you do not see any improvement, or if your condition worsens by the third day, I suggest that you see a doctor.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
