Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My health issues began at the age of 19, and I could not find the appropriate medical assistance in my home country. It is a complex and emotionally challenging story to convey, but in short, I had a problem in my head and neck area that went undiagnosed and unresolved by both my doctors and family. The doctors concluded that everything was somatic when they could not pinpoint the real issue. As a result, I endured years of suffering. With time, I began to improve on my own, and today, I am in a much better state, although I still experience pain in my head and neck area, primarily behind my tongue, which occurs every time I relax my muscles. After this pain, I feel better and refreshed, as if some form of spasm is gradually dissipating. I also experience persistent bodily fatigue. I am seeking the guidance of an experienced and knowledgeable doctor, but I am uncertain which specialist to consult. It is worth noting that I was prescribed psychotropic medications for two years because my doctors believed the issue was somatic. However, these medications did not resolve the problem, and I soon felt overwhelmed. They eventually discontinued the medications. I have undergone various lab tests, including CT scans, MRI scans, and X-rays, but they did not provide a conclusive diagnosis. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

For this issue, I suggest you see an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist for this issue. If your current doctor can not provide a diagnosis, consider consulting a senior ENT specialist or the head of the ENT department. Prolonged pain in the tongue or its surroundings may result from muscle spasms or, in some cases, an overgrowth in the styloid process (a bone). I would review your medical reports and offer further insights if you could provide your medical reports. Remember, if medical treatments have not been successful, surgical options are available, and they can provide a complete solution. So, there is no need to worry.

I hope this helps.
