How to overcome eyestrain and headaches when using prescription glasses for myopia and astigmatism?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have myopia with the number -4.5 D in the right eye and 4.75 in the left eye, with astigmatism in both eyes. I have my prescribed glasses, and I use them, but after using them for more than two hours, I feel very uncomfortable and have eye strain and sometimes headaches also. It sometimes occurs in under one hour. What could be the solution? I have difficulties doing some work without glasses. So I have to wear them most of the time with that strain.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Actually, you told me about myopia, but you did not say about astigmatism, which I found in your prescription (attachments are hidden to protect the patient's identity), the cylinder. Look, when we use the astigmatism glasses, as for you, this is the first time, you need three weeks for adaptation, and then you have to wear them all the time. You remove them just when necessary (shower, par example) and when you sleep. Therefore my suggestion is now you must put them on all the time, and after three weeks if you always have some problems such as a headache (in spite of you wearing them all the time), you can go to an optician to ensure if there is a problem with glasses (I do not think). Remember to always wear your glasses all the time. Have a good day. Hope this has addressed your concern. Regards.
