What could be the reason for headache along with neck pain?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,

Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query.
I understand your neck pain and a headache preventing you from attending work today. Also, you were diagnosed with a headache last year. First of all, do you have any allergies? Do you have any gastric ulcers, a history of gastric ulcers, or a history of liver disease? Can you describe the headache for me? Do you need to lie in a cool dark room with your eyes closed to relieve the pain? Do you feel nauseous? Did you wake up with pain after sleeping on your neck? Have you had this before? What painkillers have you taken for this headache? Have you been able to safely apply heat packs to your neck or cold packs to where your headache is?
I hope this helps. Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My headache is throbbing. Laying in the dark does help some. Physical therapy has helped. I have woken up with it at times otherwise, it is worse when I am stressed out. I am allergic. I have hay fever. I do not feel nausea. I have taken Aleve.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com
Thank you for your query.
It seems as though you are having a mixed headache of tension and migraine, hence cervicogenic. Hay fever often causes pain in the nose, cheek, and forehead regions. What triggers your hay fever? Migraines are often throbbing and unilateral requiring rest in a cool dark room. Tension headaches are related to tension and usually cause pain in both temporal regions. Cervicogenic headaches are a mix of both tension (from neck pain and stress) and migraine - it seems you have a mix of both with some symptoms from each. Cluster headaches cause pain behind the eye and tears. Thunderclap headaches occur when people wake up with an incredibly severe headache (the worst they have ever experienced) and require immediate ER (emergency room) presentation.
I hope this helps you. Thank you.
