Husband coughing on 14th day of COVID-19. What to do?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My husband was suffering from COVID-19, and it is his 14th day today. Suddenly he has started coughing, but he has been taking a cough syrup from the beginning. Can you please tell me what I should do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you do HRCT (high resolution computed tomography) of the chest. It will help to diagnose pneumonia and the severity of infection. Also, we can find the reason for the cough from the HRCT scan. After doing the tests, send me reports. I will check and let you know the details.

Can you please tell me what medication he is taking currently and if it is dry cough or cough with phlegm?

Thank you.

The Probable causes

COVID-19.

Probable diagnosis

COVID pneumonia.

Treatment plan

Tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once a day before meal for three days.

Preventive measures

Gargle with lukewarm water every four hours.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

He is on the same medication you prescribed. Along with it, he is taking Zinc, Vitamins, and all other COVID-19 treatment. He is taking steam five to six times a day. It is an all-dry cough. Can you please tell me what can be done for instant relief since it is night already?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

  1. Give ginger tea.
  2. Do Betadine gargles and steam inhalation with Vicks.
  3. Also, syrup Codeine will help.

If you need any help, contact me anytime.
