Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My NT scan results are out, but I am unable to understand if there is a risk or not. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen that attachment (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity) and your beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) level correlate but your PAPP-A (pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A) is low than the normal value. In your case, the risk is there 1: 250 for Down syndrome whereas the risk for NT and other trisomy is 1:50. These are basically statistical data and they are not confirmatory that Down syndrome will occur in your pregnancy as you do not have any previous history so the chances become still less. It basically shows at whatever readings that you have got, such readings if compared with 50 other pregnant ladies with the similar reading, only one of the ladies will get Down syndrome in her child so chances, if you say, is one in 50 pregnancies where trisomy 21, which is basically a Down syndrome the ratio still becomes 1:250. I can say the risk is high but still it has to be correlated with nuchal translucency, which is normal so though the risk is high it can be assumed that the pregnancy may not be a Down syndrome pregnancy this is what can be correlated from your ultrasound report.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply,

In my current NT scan report, the nuchal translucency is 1.8 mm, which was the same as my firstborn. Thanks for the prompt response.
