Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I suffer from hair loss, nail infections, stiffness in the hands with weight loss, and fatigue for a year. I have tried everything but nothing helps me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. According to the statement, you are suffering from hair loss, nail infections, stiffness in the hands, weight loss, fatigue with pain for a year. According to the picture provided here, (attachment removed to protect patient identity) you may suffer from onycholysis of fingernails and toenails due to fungal infections.

Onycholysis is the separation of fingernails or toenails from their pink nail bed. This separation occurs gradually and they are painless. It can occur due to various causes such as trauma, fungal infection, psoriasis, contact irritants, and moisture. It takes up to several months to years and it corrects itself when the nails grow out fully.

The recovery time for onycholysis varies and it largely depends upon the nail growth. A biopsy can be taken from the nail scrapes and it confirms the etiology. You can apply antifungal cream and corticosteroid topical cream over the affected nails and also take oral antibiotics for few days. Protect your fingernails and toenails from the affected area from contacting water. You can use gloves while doing household water-related works or bathing.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
