The optic nerve transmits visual information between the eye and the brain. Any damage, trauma, deterioration, inflammation, toxins, radiation, or disease to the optic nerve results in nerve damage. It can lead to vision distortion, vision loss, or blindness. It is also called optic nerve neuropathy or atrophy.
