Hello doctor,
For the past ten years, my mother has been suffering from osteoarthritis and has been treated with ayurvedic medications such as kudos pills and panchakarma. I would like to hear your opinion on my mother's knee X-ray to determine the state of her knee, since she has osteoarthritis and what alternative options are for treatment other than knee replacement surgery. I also want to know if a knee replacement is truly essential. Or are there any other options for treating her, such as viscotreatments? Kindly help.

Yes, the left knee appears to be highly osteoarthritic and will require knee replacement surgery (although specific knee implants, such as oxonium implants, should be used; these implants have been tested to last about thirty years, whereas other typical knee implants last only about twenty years). According to me, the right knee can be treated without surgery by using therapies such as steroid injections or hyaluronic acid injections. Unicondylar knee replacements are possible. However, they require a clinical examination.
