Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife is 34 years old. She delivered a baby this month. An ovarian cyst was diagnosed during her pregnancy, and the cyst was removed when she underwent C-section. On the biopsy, it was stated as a borderline mucinous tumor. Does it mean cancer?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Borderline tumor means, they are not non-malignant or benign or non-cancerous, but not cancerous too. All this need is follow up. There is nothing to worry. I would suggest you to take the slides from the laboratory and get a second opinion from any center, where they treat lots of cancer cases. This is important as this will completely change the follow up. Any patient with such diagnosis will need confirmation. You cannot completely go by this diagnosis as pregnancy is stress and surgery also put stress on the cells. These cells can look to be of borderline tumors. You can just keep having follow-up evaluation. You can relax and have follow-up studies if the second report is the same. All the best.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
