Can anxiety and panic attacks be treated with psychiatric therapy alone?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks. I am naturally a very happy and outgoing person. I have been hit with this massive wave of anxiety every day for the last three months. I have never experienced anxiety before this. I have been to get testing done, and my doctor said everything was fine, but I was deficient in vitamin D. I am not worried about anything in my life. I am convinced it is health-related. It is affecting my everyday life, including work. I have seen a psychologist and felt nothing had helped my everyday panic attacks. I have been on several medications and now have been prescribed Oxazepam. I do not want to be on medication; I want to return to my old self. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your history is suggestive of depression and anxiety. You have always been on two antidepressants at one time and Benzodiazepines. You have not mentioned the doses, timings, and duration. Kindly mention the results of the lab reports. Have you done a thyroid function test and psychometric test? They can help you figure out what causes your anxiety. Do you have any past or current events or relationship issues?

Thank you.
