Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 28 years old and my husband is 40 years old. We got married before nine months. My husband has been suffering from psychosis since two years, but I came to know this only after marriage. He is using Arpit 10 mg and Dyskinil. I just wanted to know about his health condition. He left office two years back and rejoined office after confirmation from his physician that he is normal. But, I do not feel that he is normal as he screams at night sometimes in a different voice pointing out his finger in someother direction. There is misunderstanding between us. He is always suspicious, negative, anxiety, mismatch words while talking, stubborn and very childish. At times, he is acting to show others that he is innocent. He is not involving with family members, not thinking about family life, uncleanliness, chain smoker, untruthfulness and not bothered about health and loses his temper frequently, which is really affecting our married life. Also, these are happening without any intention. I would like to know whether this abnormal behaviour is inborn from childhood. There is lot of issue in our sexual relationship as he could not fulfil his desire as he takes out his anger in another manner. Because of this, I took him to a urologist and he suggested Tazzle 10 mg and Nano leo. After using the medicines, I got conceived and now I am 5 months pregnant. He stopped using Tazzle and Nano leo for a month and ordered L-Arginine without doctor consultation. He seems to be normal, but his behavior differs sometimes. In fact he has mental pressure from his family members as he is taking care of them financially. I am desperately looking for a solution. I am afraid about my married life. I will be happy if my husband becomes normal. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your description of his complaints is suggestive that he suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. It is not congenital. It begins in early adulthood most often and there is no complete cure. But, it is very much treatable with proper doses of antipsychotic medicines. Patients can live almost normal life with family and work, but they need to be on medication life long. I believe that the current dose of Aripiprazole (Arpit) that he recieving is inadequate. It needs to be increased to 20 mg to 30 mg for good response. If the response to Arpit is not satisfactory, then there are other medications that are available. I would suggest that you go along with him for doctor's appointment (or alone if he does not like it) and explain the current severity of symptoms. It will help him better to choose proper doses of proper drugs. Thank you.
