Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have parasites in my stool. I have taken the tablet Vermox; however, it did not help. I am attaching the pictures for your reference. Kindly let me know about the parasite in my stool.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have reviewed the pictures you shared (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). Can you share the test reports and doctor's prescription?

Mebendazole tablet is an anthelminthic that blocks the uptake of glucose by the adult and larval forms of helminths selectively and irreversibly, which makes it unviable for worm survival. After treatment with the tablet Mebendazole, dead worms may come out of the stools either gradually or immediately. However, many intestinal helminthic parasites may also prove resistant to treatment and need more than one antiworm medicine. Mebendazole is indicated in multiple intestinal worm infestations such as Trichuris trichuria (whipworm), Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm or threadworm), Ascaris lumbricoides (roundworm), Ancylostoma duodenale (common hookworm), Necator americanus (American hookworm) in single or mixed gastrointestinal infestations. For the control of whipworm, hookworm, and roundworm infections, one tablet twice a day for three consecutive days is recommended. For the control of pinworm, a single tablet is administered. It is highly recommended that a second tablet is taken after two weeks. The current treatment practices use either Albendazole (due to the need for less frequent dosages and adverse events) or a combination of Albendazole and Ivermectin.

I suggest you check if you have taken the dosages mentioned above. Also, I suggest you get the specimen tested by a pathology or microbiology laboratory to get an exact diagnosis of the variety of the currently isolated worm.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

I have attached my recent reports. The first one is blood test results that were abnormal, and the second one is stool test results. I have used the tablet Mebendazole 100 mg twice daily for three days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The dose of tablet Mebendazole is appropriate, but the stool test sample taken a day after starting the tablet Mebendazole does not appear appropriate. Was any stool sample taken before starting the treatment? If so, kindly share. If you have isolated the stool parasite, kindly send it to the laboratory for examination. Also, you may need to take an additional combination of anthelminthic drugs like tablet Albendazole and tablet Ivermectin to treat residual intestinal worms.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
