Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 77-year-old father has been battling Parkinson's disease for the past five years. Recently, his condition has taken a significant toll as he is now finding it extremely challenging to walk and keeps experiencing frequent falls, even with limited movement. I am deeply concerned about his deteriorating mobility and safety. Are there any available treatments or therapies that could help improve his ability to walk and prevent these recurrent falls? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist.

I can understand your situation and concern about your father.

You have not mentioned enough details like medications, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) brain report, and other comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, etc. So, it is difficult to guide you. There are many medications like Carbidopa, Benzhexol, Tetrabenazine, etc, which help you to deal with Parkinson's disease. Your father has an issue with falling. So, first, you must check his blood pressure (dehydration and hypertension), hemoglobin, blood sugar, and medications like sedatives. I suggest he check CBC (complete blood count), RBS (random blood sugar), vitamin B12, vitamin D3, ECG (electrocardiogram), MRI brain plain, and blood pressure monitoring. Because all the above factors are common causes of falls in elderly people, you must rule them out. You must get the opinion from your nearest neurophysician for detailed evaluation and examination.

I hope that you get my point.

Please tell me if you need further guidance.

Thank you.
