Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) problem. I am not under any treatment. I came to know about this condition a few months ago when I missed my period cycle. I am not taking any medicines, but now I am facing problems with my periods for the last two months. Please suggest medications to get my mensuration cycle on time.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query.

20 % of females have this PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) problem. It is a disorder and not a disease. The best medicine for this is keeping weight under control. As per your height, your weight should be 121 pounds . Try to reduce weight by having a proper diet and exercise. It will help in regularizing your periods. You can take the tablet Norethisterone 5 milligrams twice a day for five days to get your periods. Work on your weight, your periods will gradually become normal. As weight increases, the problem goes on increasing. Whatever medicines are given for regularizing periods are birth control pills. I do not think you require them, as you are a little overweight. Also check the serum FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone), and prolactin levels on the second or third day of your period to rule out other hormonal irregularities. There is no harm even if you get your periods every 40 to 50 days (longer cycles). Do not worry.

Take care and all the best.

Thanks and regards.
