What can be done to treat pain in both upper and lower teeth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain in the tooth, both upper and lower, and it has been fluctuating for the last five days. I have taken painkillers and done a salt water gargle, but it is constant now.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your right upper last wisdom tooth is erupting in a bit of a horizontal pattern and is hitting the second last tooth, causing infection in it (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You might need the extraction of the upper right wisdom tooth and root canal treatment of the upper second last tooth. Moreover, there is some gum disease, also called periodontitis.

It is causing bone loss in the anterior part of your teeth, and this can be partially reversed with scaling treatment. Get an appointment for it as soon as possible. Once treatment gets started, do one course of antibiotics as well, which will help along with the treatment. Keep doing salt rinses and take a painkiller three times a day every eight hours for three days.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
