Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 21-year-old man, and I have been experiencing difficulty with the proper retraction of my foreskin, accompanied by pain. This issue has persisted for quite some time. Forcefully pulling down the skin causes significant pain, particularly in the glans penis or the tip area.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

You are experiencing discomfort with your foreskin. This condition is called phimosis, which is when the foreskin is too tight to retract over the glans penis (the tip of the penis). Phimosis can cause pain, irritation, and difficulty urinating or during sexual activity. In most cases, phimosis resolves on its own as a person ages, as the foreskin becomes more elastic. However, if you are experiencing significant discomfort or if phimosis is causing functional issues, such as difficulty urinating or pain during sexual activity, it may require medical treatment. I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions:

  1. Gentle retraction: If your foreskin is only slightly tight, gentle retraction of the foreskin during bathing or showering may help stretch the foreskin and improve its elasticity over time.
  2. Topical steroids: In some cases, using a topical steroid cream on the foreskin to help reduce inflammation and improve elasticity is advisable.
  3. Circumcision: In severe cases of phimosis, where there is significant discomfort or functional issues, circumcision (surgical removal of the foreskin) may be recommended as a treatment option.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
