Hello doctor,

My wife is diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) while we went to the scanning center. What will be the cause? She did not have any sexually transmitted infection (STI), and negative for all tests. She did not have any pain also. Is it curable? I am very tensed. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) is a term used for ascending the upper genital tract infection in females. Infection may spread to the pelvic peritoneum. Does she have a history of abortion?

Thank you doctor,

No, we are newly married.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Primary PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) may occur spontaneously or follow STI (sexually transmitted infection). Secondary PID follows invasive surgical procedures, abortion, intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) insertion. Get all STI panel tests done to rule out STI possibility. Do urine routine or microscopy, and urine culture. The pathogenesis of PID is complex. The spread of organisms from the lower genital tract to the endometrium is facilitated by thin cervical mucus. Do you have any symptoms associated with pain during intercourse, lower abdomen pain, low back pain, abnormal vaginal discharge, or bleeding, pain on urination? Do you have fever, nausea, vomiting, or fainting?

Thank you doctor,

How long it takes to cure? Is it curable?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Take tablet Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 14 days. Follow up after 14 days. Avoid unprotected intercourse until healing. Get all tests done to rule out the exact cause of infection.

Thank you doctor,

Can you please mention what tests to be done?

#

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Please get done urine culture, microscopy, and urine routine.

Thank you doctor,

I had done the above tests.

#

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Do urine culture test. So any infective organism will be detected.

Thank you doctor,

Are my sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests valid?

#

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. No HIV, herpes, chlamydia, and syphilis. These sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are ruled out. But in urine, particular organism like gonococci, E.coli, etc., can be detected on urine culture, and sensitivity reports will suggest drugs, which that organism is sensitive to. So urine culture and sensitivity test should be done.
