Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 35 year old male. The problem is that for the last 6 months or so I feel a little flesh near the anus area. There is no pain or itch and I do not experience any bleeding or discomfort. Sometimes, it is virtually suppressed and sometimes I can feel it. I am afraid that it is something related to piles. Regarding my diet, I am a non-vegetarian. Before two years, I used to have alcohol daily. I left it completely for a year. And for the last one year, I used to have beer occasionally. For high blood pressure, I am taking Metzok 50 mg and Lonapam 0.25 mg.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I have gone through your complaint. Flesh near the anal region that can be suppressed most probably suggests piles (hemorrhoids). Although, some other condition like anal warts, skin tag, cyst and boils have to be ruled out. This is possible only after proper examination. Piles is not associated with moderate alcohol consumption but with constipation. Proper treatment of piles requires thorough assessment by surgeon. Presence of pain indicates thrombosed pile (clotting of blood is thrombosed pile) or the possibility of fissure in anus has to be considered. Proper management will therefore require thorough clinical examination to know the character of piles and other associated complication. Initial stages of piles are generally managed conservatively. I would suggest you to do the following which will definitely help. Increase water consumption, consume at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day. High fiber diet, two serving of vegetable salad daily. Do hot sitz bath; add a handful of common table salt to a tub of lukewarm water and immerse your bottom by sitting in it for 15 to 20 minutes. Each session has to be done twice a day. It will take care of pain and inflammatory edema. Syrup Lactulose 10 ml twice a day will keep the stools soft and prevent constipation. I would suggest you to consult a surgeon for further assessment.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I do not have constipation problem and the stool is normally all right. Will it be fine to take nutritional fiber supplement on daily basis? Also, I have started brisk walking in the morning and evening. Is it all right?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Since your stool is normal and there is no constipation, I would not recommend you to take nutritional fiber supplement but natural fiber rich food in diet like cucumber, carrot, turnip, lady's finger, green leaves, banana, beetroot, jackfruit, pears and oranges. Brisk walking in the morning and evening is a wonderful idea. Please continue with it.
