Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Male, 55, 170 cm, 60 kg, non-smoker, non-alcoholic ,vegetarian. Day before yesterday nose and ear bleeding was there in the early morning. Done blood test and found platelets count 24000 only. The doctor suggested to take rest for 4 days.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Following is my opinion for your case. Your platelet count is low and suggestive of severe thrombocytopenia (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The bleeding could be due to that. The reactive large platelet also seen in smear. So platelet destruction might occurred in your body. Dengue and viral infection are common cause for that. Your platelet count need to be monitored at 48 hour interval. Drink lots of water.
If platelet count still go down and bleeding does not stop than platelet transfusion might given. You can rule out dengue by Elisa or Rapid card test.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
Dengue is negative. What should be the diet for enhancing platelets count? And to reduce effect of platelets destruction? Also is it safe to transfuse platelets? The doctor said that you have to transfuse always during different intervals if something goes wrong.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Following is my opinion for your asked question. You can drink more water and you can take papaiya fruit more to increase platelet count. No other specific diet is available to increase platelet count. If you were given platelet transfusion in past as well for frequent interval than idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura also can be possible. You can consult nearby hematologist for your detailed evaluation.
