Can pregnancy occur due to precum contamination while fingering without penetrative sex?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Actually, on the 13th day of my period cycle, my boyfriend and I got close, but we did not have penetrative intercourse. He was just touching me, kind of fingering my vagina, and I thought his fingers might be contaminated with precum, and that is why I took an I-pill after three hours. I did not experience any withdrawal bleeding, and now as my period date is getting closer, which should occur at the end of the month according to my normal cycle, I am too worried and stressed. I have anxiety thinking of the fact that I will get my period on time or not or what if I get pregnant somehow. I am very shy about sharing so many personal details, but I have nobody else to share them with.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details presented by you, and I fully understand your concern.

See, to get pregnant, the sperms have to be released inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern of the female. Further, the fertilized egg is then required to be implanted inside the uterus of the female. When all this happens successfully, then a female is said to have conceived or been pregnant.

In your case, as explained by you, it was not penetrative intercourse, and at best, it was precum on fingers. So here I wish to tell you that sperms are there in precum as well but once out on hands or any other thing, they survive for barely a few seconds and rare studies show them to be living a maximum of five minutes. So even if precum was there and it had sperms, it is not likely that sperms could have been surviving to cause pregnancy. So there is no chance of pregnancy as it is.

Further, you took an emergency contraceptive pill which acts at three different stages to prevent pregnancy. Firstly by delaying ovulation, secondly by preventing fertilization of the egg, and thirdly by creating conditions unfavorable for implantation in the uterus. So there is just no chance of pregnancy. Further, emergency contraceptive pills are hormone-based, and they have this known side effect of causing light bleeding in certain females and also delaying periods in certain females. So please do not worry if you do not experience withdrawal bleeding and if your periods get delayed by a week to ten days.

The only thing I wish to tell you here, in addition, is that stress alone is responsible for delay in periods of 25 % of females worldwide. So do not take the stress. Just live your routine life. You are not pregnant, and do not worry if the period is a little delayed.

Do not worry. I am always there for you.

Please feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Your words were so soothing. I am happy to inform you that I have got my period today. I want to ask you, since it is confirmed that I am not pregnant, I do not have to do a pregnancy test later, right?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Although there is no chance of pregnancy in your case, just monitor your flow and duration of periods. Generally there are few females who have lesser bleeding or for a lesser duration. So just let me know the details.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

My flow seems to be normal as of now, but I have noticed more mucus in my period than usual. Is there something to worry about?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Do not worry. Let me know by tomorrow evening after observing the flow and mucus content. It is nothing unusual just observe it for a 24-hour cycle starting now and compare, especially the flow part. Nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

On my first day, the flow was heavy. On the second day, my flow was normal, and on the third day, that is today, the flow was normal but might be a little lesser than my usual third-day flow, and as of now, I am still bleeding. My flow has more mucus than usual, and I have attached a picture of my flow for reference. Is it sure by now that I am not pregnant and everything is alright?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I have gone through the details and image shared by you (the attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). There is no chance of pregnancy, and as I have seen the image, it appears to be fine and has no cause for concern. To have a better idea, I requested you to share details later, after some time-lapse. This has given us a fair comparison with your routine periods. So nothing to worry about now as the flow has been like your routine, period. Live your routine life and do well.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
