Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I had unprotected sex during the 7th and 8th day of my menstrual cycle, right after finishing my periods. I took Ipill on the 8th day, which is within 24 hours. I do not want to get pregnant. Are there any chances of me getting pregnant?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Let me give you a few basic facts. The period occurs 14 days after ovulation. So if you take the average minimum and maximum periods frequency of the last year and subtract 14 from these two numbers, you will get the rough dates of ovulation. This will be around the 14th day of the period. The egg will stay alive for 24 hours. Sperm will stay alive in the uterus and tube for three days. So I do not see any chance of pregnancy. The egg will be ready on day eight, and the sperm will not stay alive till the 14th. Further, your dosage of Ipill will make the lining of the uterus unfavorable for the implantation of an embryo. So you will have periods in the next 7 to 10 days. So it is almost certain that you will not get pregnant.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
My last period started at the end of last month, so I had intercourse at the end of the same month. So is there any chance of getting pregnant? Does ovulation happen earlier? I am worried about this. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
As I mentioned, there is no chance of pregnancy so early in the period.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Yesterday we spoke about this, but today early morning I am bleeding. Is this the period? Because I had my last period on the 21st of last month.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. I had mentioned that if you take Ipill, the endometrial lining of the uterus becomes very thick and unfavorable for the embryo to implant. Then after beginning a dose, you will have withdrawal bleeding within 7 to 10 days. That is normal. Your period date will change from now on to this new date.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Will I get periods within 7 to 10 days after taking the Ipill? What about the ovulation process? Did I ovulate? Can you please explain the process of this?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You do not need to ovulate to have periods. Kindly go through my previous explanation. Ipill is a high dose of progesterone hormone. When only a single dose is given, there will be withdrawal bleeding within 7 to 10 days. That is expected.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Then from next month, will this be my regular period date? Approximately when will I ovulate next? This time there is no chance of pregnancy, right?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Fourteen days from this last bleeding will be the next ovulation. If you have bleeding, now there is no chance you are pregnant.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Three months ago, I took Ipill after unprotected sex, but I did not face any problems. My periods started on the regular date. However, this time it is early. That is why I was concerned.
Hi,
