Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I consulted a gynecologist a few years back and noticed that my medical records had some terms that I was unfamiliar with. According to one of my medical records, the gynecologist listed me as para 0 regarding pregnancy. A year later, my medical records by a different gynecologist were gravida 0. Is para 0 and gravida 0 the same term? Are both gynecologists saying the same thing? What are para 0 and gravida 0 when used for the same patient?

I saw my medical records by the same gynecologist who listed me as gravida 0, stating that I have a vaginal introitus. What is a vaginal introitus for an adult female? Does vaginal introitus mean intact hymen and small vaginal opening (introitus), or does it mean something else?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

1. G means gravid uterus. If you are pregnant, you are termed as G, depending upon the number of pregnancies.

2. P means the parous state, meaning if you have been pregnant for more than 20 weeks, you are parous.

Thus both are different.

Intact hymen defines your virginity, and small introitus has nothing to do with virginity. However, if you have any doubt, then get back to me.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

My queries are:

1. Does being termed as G means I have been pregnant before, although it says Gravida 0?

2. Does gravida 0 mean I have never been pregnant?

3. Does para 0 mean I have been pregnant before, but the pregnancy was less than 20 weeks?

4. Can one doctor determine me as para 0 and another gravida 0?

Please answer these questions.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Gravida 0 means you were never pregnant. Maybe the other doctor got confused and wrote it wrongly. The two doctors cannot vary in opinion until you have given different histories to them.

Please let me know the complete details for further guidance.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I need to know what vaginal introitus means in the report? Does vaginal introitus mean intact hymen and small vaginal opening (introitus), or something else?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Neha Rathod

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Vaginal introitus means intact hymen, and it has nothing to do with the size of the vaginal opening.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

1. Does the first doctor label me as para 0 and believed that I had been pregnant but miscarried before 20 weeks?

2. Did the second doctor label me gravida 0 because there were no confirmed pregnancies, although the first doctor labeled me as para 0 (meaning pregnant before)?

3. I was going for surgery, and on that medical record for myomectomy, the doctor labeled me as gravida 0. Does he mean I am currently pregnant (gravida 0) or currently not pregnant (gravida 0)?

Please answer these questions.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Neha Rathod

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I think it is a misinterpreted report and nothing else. You are gravida 0, and it means you are not pregnant. So relax and do not worry about it.

Thank you.
